to preserving the ancient memory of Central Asia

A collection of Sogdian documents jointly researched by the International Centre for Documentary Heritage(ICDH)
of Korea and the International Institute for Central Asian Studies(IICAS) of Uzbekistan
was successfully inscribed on the International Register on the occasion of the 221st UNESCO Executive Board.


3p: The newly inscribed documents is titled
“Collection of Documents from Mount Mugh”.
It was first discovered in the 1930’s at the Mount Mughof Panjakent in present-day Tajikistan.
The collection comprises approximately 80 documents dating
back to the 7th-8th century and offering rare insights into the daily life,
political structures, and multicultural interactions of the Sogdians


4p: This joint inscription is not only the first successful case of
collaboration between non-governmental international institutions,
but is also expected to invigorate research on the transnational documentary heritage
of ancient Sogdians and the wider Central Asian region.
