The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS, Minister Kim Boo-kyum), in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), holds the Advanced e-Government Training Course for senior officials from Central and South American nations on June18-22.

MOIS and IDB have sought ways to foster bilateral cooperation by signing the memorandum of understanding in the field of e-Government, and have continuously discussed the direction of joint cooperation programs with the help of IDB funding.

As the first stage of joint cooperation projects, the training course was designed based on growing interest and demands for cooperation on Korea’s e-government in Latin America. Follow-up projects will be explored and promoted after the training course.

About 15 senior officials from 14 member countries of e-Government Leaders of Latin America and the Caribbean (RED GEALC), including Director General Nicolas Antonio Rougier of Digital Products Bureau, Argentine Ministry of Social Development, visited Korea to attend the training course.

About 15 senior officials from 14 member countries of e-Government Leaders of Latin America and the Caribbean (RED GEALC), including Director General Nicolas Antonio Rougier of Digital Products Bureau, Argentine Ministry of Social Development, visited Korea to attend the training course.

The training course consists of lectures and on-site study tour on wide-ranging issues of digital government services such as Gov24, e-civil service management, cyber security, e-archive management and e-procurement. In particular, participants will give presentations on each nation’s e-government and discuss challenges and future strategies to share the status of digital government of their own countries. And, they will have one-on-one business consultation meetings with Korean export companies to seek ways to further cooperation on e-government projects.
Argentina has been establishing the Public Administration Modernization Plan for Realizing Open Government since the signing of MOU on cooperation in the field of e-government with MOIS in 2016. Uruguay, which joined the Digital 7 (D7) in 2018, is putting forward the 2020 Digital Government Plan with an aim to build ‘Whole-of-Government’ and ‘Smart Government.’ Accordingly, joint cooperation between Korea and Uruguay is expected to be reinforced through many projects including research on data integration with the Korean government.

Director General Chung Yoon Kee of e-Government Bureau commented that “we have closely working together with Latin American countries. For instance, the e-government delegation was sent to Peru and Paraguay in May upon their requests to share experience and knowledge on resident registration, land registry and Smart City.” “MOIS will further reinforce multilateral cooperation, through collaboration with IDB, to expand the presence of Korean e-government in Central and South America,” he added.
